A short restaurant review/recommendation. We stumbled on Can Recasens when in Barcelona for Primavera festival. It’s a little way from the centre of Barcelona, just off the Avinguda Diagonal, on the Rambla del Poblenou.
The menu is very simple – you’re basically here for meat and cheese. The are salads, fondue and sandwiches but the main attraction is their meat and cheese boards. We had a board with a selection of Catalan meats, and one with a selection of North Spanish cheese, a very fresh salad (also involving cheese), pile of pan con tomate and a bottle of wine – the photo below is predictably bad, but this was one of the best meals I’ve eaten in Barcelona.
The selection of meat was amazing – a number of soft, mortadella type sausages, including a superb one with pistachio nuts, some sort of boiled ham, salami and jamon iberico. The cheeses included one studded with cumin seeds, a soft crumbly blue and a variety of semi-soft and semi-cured cheese.
They have a deli counter at the front so you can take away stuff for lunches too. Service was excellent – we had to wait for a table as it’s quite popular and booking is advised, but were immediately served a glass of wine while we standing by the deli counter waiting. Really nice, if a bit noisy, atmosphere. Strongly recommend if you’re in that part of town.
